Children and young people are online now more than at any other time in history. They are heavily influenced by social media and their online experiences. WA Child Safety Services is committed to empowering children and young people to have safe and positive experiences in the digital environment. As trusted adults in their lives we have a responsibility to assist children and young people to maximise the benefits of being online and helping them to manage the risks. Our workshops are designed to provide up-to-date information, guidance and strategies to support children and young people to navigate the digital world safely. We use Protective Behaviours as a framework to teach Cyber Safety. Workshop Content:
• Understand the apps, social media platforms, games and sites children and young people use.
• Practical strategies to protect personal information, develop healthy online habits and methods to avoid ‘tech tantrums’ and problematic use.
• Current information about online gaming, online grooming, image-based abuse, nudes (sexting), pornography and cyberbullying.
• Information about parental controls and restriction tools. • Educational resources to assist educators in teaching cyber safety.
